About Tyson

Tyson Unrau is a drummer and drum teacher based in central Manitoba. He started his professional career as a musician at the age of fourteen, and continues to successfully follow his dream of playing and recording great music. He studied drumset and percussion with many renowned teachers including Stephane Chamberland (Wizdom Drumshed Quebec City), Mitch Dorge (Crash Test Dummies), Ben Reimer (Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra), Daniel Roa (Brandon University) and Dom Famularo (Wizdom Drumshed New York). In 2013, Tyson participated in a drumming intensive with legend Dave Weckl (Chick Corea) in Chicago.

Tyson is a multifaceted drummer fluent in all genres of music. He has toured, recorded and/or performed with the following artists: The Color, Remedy Drive, Aaron Shust, Eli Dummer, Jordan St. Cyr, Brooke Nicolls, Aaron Powell, Bold As Lions, Jason Kirkness, and many others.

Tyson maintains a busy private teaching schedule in-person and on Skype at his home studio in St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba. Tyson’s studio is a well-equipped teaching and recording facility where drummers from all over the province come to study. His lessons have a strong emphasis on the roots of drumming and learning the proper techniques from the start. He is always seeking the best possible drum resources for each student and makes each lesson relevant to their unique playing goals.

Tyson’s dedication and talent is very impressive. He is very versatile and knows a lot about drumming and music. Tyson is a real pro and I recommend him for any musical situation and for lessons.
